THE KURGAN EMERGENCY MEDICINE HELICOPTER CENTER OPENS

05.03.2018

On February 8, the opening of the Kurgan Emergency medicine Helicopter Center was held. The event participants were introduced to the infrastructure of the Kurgan Emergency medicine Helicopter Center, and demonstrated the newest domestic Ansat helicopters equipped with the Kazan Aggregate Plant medical module.

According to Irina Makarova, First Deputy Director of the Department of Health of the Kurgan Region, “medical aviation is of great importance; over 5 months, more than 170 people were evacuated by helicopter, and the evacuation time was halved. This plays a huge role especially in cases when there is a suspicion of acute myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. Information that comes from the central district hospitals to the Center for Disaster Medicine is received by experienced doctors, telemedicine consultations are conducted and a decision is made. The sooner we make this decision, the sooner we can get the helicopter ready, and now the conditions have been created to conduct this work as efficiently as possible. ”

Alexander Shuvaev, Director of the Kurgan Regional Center for Disaster Medicine, noted that “the importance of developing medical aviation in the region is that a person can be sure that when living in remote areas he or she is guaranteed to have access to highly qualified medical assistance in the shortest possible time.”

The CEO of RVS Alexey Zaitsev told the event participants that the next step would be “the creation of medical aviation services at the Urals hub. The implementation of such a project will enable us to optimize the use of helicopter equipment, ground medical equipment and fuel infrastructure, and provide air ambulance services more efficiently and with maximum quality.”

The Kurgan Emergency Medicine Helicopter Center is located in close proximity to the Kurgan Regional Center for Disaster Medicine and is equipped with a certified helicopter pad for helicopters weighing up to 6.5 tons, a hangar that enables the maintenance of helicopters of this type, and modern lighting equipment that enables air ambulance services to be provided round-the-clock.

Currently as part of the implementation of medical aviation services, Russian Helicopter Systems operates two Ansat helicopters in the Kurgan region. The Kurgan region is the only one in the Russian Federation where two new civilian helicopters of this type are involved in the development of medical aviation.
